Dr. Prannoy L Roy (born on October 15, 1949) is an Indian media figure. His father is a Bengali and his mother is English. He is founder and the president of New Delhi Television (NDTV). He is one of the pioneers of Indian television journalism.

] Early life
Roy attended The Doon School, Dehradun and went to Haileybury (UK) for his A-levels. He graduated in Economics from the University of London's Queen Mary College in 1973. He received his Ph.D. (in agricultural economics) from the Delhi School of Economics, where he taught for a year.
He worked as a Chartered Accountant for some time and later joined Price Waterhouse, India before moving to television.
Roy is a leading psephologists and political analysts in India. He is the recipient of the prestigious Leverhulme fellowship for his Doctorate and a scholarship to study at the Haileybury, a leading public school in England. Dr. Roy has a doctorate in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics, Bachelors in Economics from the Queen Mary College, London University and is a Qualified Chartered Accountant from London. During 1985-1987, Dr. Prannoy Roy was associated with the Ministry of Finance, Government of India as Economic Advisor.
Dr. Prannoy Roy and Mrs. Radhika Roy jointly hold 4836850 Equity Shares in the Company as on August 8, 2008. His mother comes from Christian background. Suzanne Arundhati Roy, another Christian is his cousin. His family is directly related to Marxist Communist party General Secretary Prakash Karat and CPM Politburo member Brinda Karat.
Roy is a Director on the Board of NDTV Media Limited, NDTV News Limited , NDTV Imagine Limited, NDTV Lifestyle Limited, NDTV Convergence Limited, NDTV Labs Limited, NDTV Investments Private Limited, RRPR Holding Private Limited, Metronation Chennai Television Private Limited, Alliance Lumiere Limited and NGEN Media Services Private Limited. Dr. Prannoy Roy is a Member of the Shareholder's Investors Grievance Committee of the Board of Directors of the Company.

He rose to fame with the program The World This Week and the election coverage with Vinod Dua on Doordarshan. He has also worked for the STAR TV. He specializes in covering elections and analyzing election results. He is also a well-known economist and has served as an economic adviser to the Ministry of Finance.

Roy is married to Radhika Roy (sister of Brinda Karat), who was a speech therapist and is presently the Director of NDTV. He is the uncle of the prize winning Indian writer Arundhati Roy.
He is also a member of International Advisory Board a neo conservative globalist think tank council on foreign relations.[1][
